During summer 2006 we spent a holiday at the seaside in Apulia. The shore was fabulous and also our friends who travelled with us were very nice, but a subtle idea came to life while sunbathing on the beach: it was the occasion to buy something special at a cost still affordable: we were in the right place. We left our friends alone, relaxing under the sun, for starting a very original safari in the countryside: we were searching the right trullo to buy. All the countryside of that area of Apulia is spread of small very peculiar buildings, all made by dry-stone walls and most of them completely in ruins but originally located in wonderful places. They are the trulli. (the singular noun is trullo and the plural is trulli!). Once they were little farmhouse for peasants and their original shape and typology are a heritage rising back several centuries when the whole territory was under the feudal system. After several days, our search brought us on the territory of San Michele Salentino, about twenty kilometres from the seashore: we found our ruins to buy! The photos show our Trullo della Luna as we saw it in 2006 and how it is now after its restoration. The story doesn’t end here but the rest will be described in some other post.
